How To Send DJX-1 Bulk Dumps To Your Computer:

You will need the SYSEX file from the Yamaha DJX Users Archive which only works on a Windows OS computer, and then follow the directions below.

DJX-1 Bulk Sends and MIDI

It was Jason Powell (Fka MC_Love) of Abstract. who suggested that a "midi filer" (aka SYSEX) was needed to transfer the Bulk Send and settings from  the DJX-1 to a computer.  After several months of research and scouring the internet for software, Randall Gorden (Fka dj_white_rice) found a single software that would work with the DJX-1 out of several hundred tested. It was found on an obscure website archive that shortly went offline.

How to do a Bulk Send or Sample Send:

To do a basic bulk send or sample send from the DJX to your computer for storage purposes, you will need to download a "midi filer" software from our website. We call it the SYSEX for DJX-1.

Next, make sure that your computer is connected to your DJX using appropriate midi cables. Your DJX must be turned on and set to the appropriate settings. (See page 94 to 101) for additional information in your Yamaha DJX-1 manual.  If you do not have a manual, you can download one from our website..

Here are the basic steps for saving bulk/sample djx information to a computer:

  1. Turn on your computer
  2. Turn on the DJX-1 (See use manual page 97)
  3. Turn off the (Part Control) and (Pattern Control) buttons. They are always on when the DJX powers up. (Push theses buttons to turn them off) In the following order press these buttons on time. (Song), (Style), (Voice). This should set them to off. Turn on the SYX midifiler software you downloaded to you computer. If the software has an option "Waiting to receive" turn it on. Press the function (button) use (- BWD) or (+ FWD) to browse through the functions.
Set the following functions to on or off. (See page 95 or 96 of the Yamaha DJX Manual)
a.) Set function #81 Remote Channel to Channel 16.
b.) Set function #82 Keyboard Out to ON.
  4. Select #86 for Bulk Dump which downloads all user settings, samples, and other settings you have set the DJX up to hold in memory. Or you can select #88 for a Sample Dump that downloads only the samples you have saved to your DJX.
  5. When you see the BULKSEND or SMPLSEND in your DJX-1 LCD display, it should change to YESBULKSND? or YESSMPLSND?
  6. Now press the (+) button and the display should change to YESSURE? Pressing the (+) button again will begin the transmission. You will need to turn on the SYX Midfiler software on your computer to begin receving the transmission.
  7. It will then download the DJX information to your computer. After if is done the DJX display will read YESBULK SEND? again.
  8. (IMPORTANT) Once it has finished downloading to the computer. Save the information downloaded to your computer on the syx midifiler software. Name the file something that will be easy for you to remember.

Uploading from your computer to the djx:

  1. Set-up the cables.
  2. Turn on your computer
  3. Turn on your DJX
  4. Turn on the syx midi filer software.
  5. In the following order press these buttons on time. (Song), (Style), (Voice). This should set them to off.
  6. Press the (Style) button again.
  7. Set the midi filer software on your computer to send/transmit the file information you have saved. The djx will automatically restore the saved files. (See page 98)
