写真は、繁殖マウンドでフィン ディスプレイを行うムチェンガ コノフォロスです。

ムチェンガ属のムチェンガ(mchenga) とは チチェワ語で『砂』を表す言葉で、本属は、2006年にスタウファー氏とコニングス氏により、初めて作られた属です。

本属は、広大な砂場で生息しており、レスリノプス属や、トラミチクロミス属、タエニオレスリノプスなどと同じように、大きなクレーター型の繁殖マウンドを作る事が知られています。
こうしたクレータを作る魚には、繁殖マウンドの中ででメスにアピールする際の行動には様々なパターンを有しており、ムチェンガ属はOを形取り泳ぐのに対し、トラミチクロミスは8の字を形取 ったフィン ディスプレイを行います。
本属には下記の6種が該当していますが、全てこれまでコパディクロミスに該当していた魚です。

ムチェンガ エウキノストムス：Mchenga （Copadichromis) eucinostomus

齊切瓦語(Chichewa)裡面 " mchenga " 代表”沙子”。這屬是由Stauffer和Konings的兩位專家在2006年開始創造的屬名。

牠們生活在遼闊的沙地。牠們跟Lethrinops屬，Tramitichromis屬，Taeniolethrinops屬一樣建造比較大型的火山口狀態的繁殖窩。
另外這種建造繁殖窩的魚種裡面牠們Mchenga屬的魚種一般用是循著O字型的路線來跳舞，但Tramitichromis屬的魚種則是循著8字型的路線來跳舞。

目前這屬慈鯛總共有6種．牠們原來都屬於Copadichromis屬
