Midi Connections: DJX-1 Foot Switch (Trigger)

The foot switch on the DJX-1 can be used for several different purposes.
First you can use it as an assignable trigger. Similar to how you can assign
the different knobs and ribbon controller to provide different functions on the DJX-1.
By using your foot to control these various features, you are able to free up your hands
for other purposes. See the table below for the functions that can be assigned and
trigger from the foot switch. (Note: you will have to buy a foot switch. There are
several kinds of foot switches available. The cheapest one sold by Yamaha cost
about $20.00. It is basically an on off switch. You can by others which are more
like a dimmer switch and allow you to vary the pressure of the pedel and therefore
vary the effect sensitivity.)

Footswitch Function
Effect/Result
Sustain Damper Pedal or Sustain while playing keyboard
Arpeggiator Hold

Turns on and off the arpeggiator for hands free operation
(See page 37 to 39 of your manual for arpeggiator information)

Start/Stop Same as the star and stop button in song mode and style mode. (See page 41 through 45 of your manual for information about the Start/Stop features.)
Lead In/Lead Out Same as the lead in/out button (See page 46 through 47 of your manual for information about the Lead In/Out features.)
Tap This allows you to tap out the BPM (Tempo) with your foot. It also
allows you to chage the tempo of a song while it is playing.

(First see page 6 about assigning the ribbon controller, foot switch and knobs. Then see
page 63 and 64 of your DJX-1 Manual for more information about assigning knobs.)
